Overview:

 

The Spanish Dual Language Program is offered at all grade levels at Furr Elementary.  Students who are in the program receive 50% of their instruction in English and 50% in Spanish.  They are taught the same standards as all other students in North Carolina, but we teach those standards in both languages giving them the opportunity to become biliterate and bilingual.  

 

We partner with a company called Participate to recruit and hire native Spanish-speaking teachers for our program.  They come to us from many different countries including: Colombia, Costa Rica, and El Salvador.  They share their culture and customs with our students, providing another way our students benefit from participation in the program.

 

All kindergarten students are eligible to participate in language immersion.  Parents have the choice to sign their student up for the program via the link in the 'Application' section below.  We also allow students to start the program on the first day of first grade.  If you have a rising first grade student and want him/her to be in Spanish Immersion, please contact an administrator via the emails or phone numbers below. If your student is in 2nd-5^th grade, he/she must have experience speaking, reading and writing in Spanish in order to join the program.  You may contact an administrator if you would like for him/her to be considered for the program in 2nd-5^th grades.

 

 

 

 

All new kindergarten students must register for school on line via the following link: https://www.cabarrus.k12.nc.us/enrollment  As a reminder, your student must turn 5 years old on or before August 31, 2023 in order to start kindergarten in August of 2023.
