WELCOME TO THIRD GRADE.
I would like to take this time to welcome you and your child to my class. I am excited about this year. Plans are already under way for exciting activities, lessons, projects and much more. Our classroom will be a place where your child can learn and achieve their highest potential. To maximize your child's learning, it is essential to create a classroom environment where students are both motivated to learn and actively involved in their own classroom learning. As the year progresses, you may notice that our classroom doesn't run like other classrooms. We will be learning through whole brain teaching, a research-based system that utilizes areas of the brain, keeps kids engaged throughout their lessons, and helps them retain much more information than the standard lecture-discussion model.
Whole brain teaching is a highly interactive form of instruction that delivers information to students in short "chunks". Kids then teach what they have just learned to their partners. While students teach each other, i will walk around the room to discover who understands the lesson and who needs more instruction. Research shows that children retain more information when they have an opportunity to make it their own...plus, it is amazingly fun!
A little about myself, I am a caring and compassionate educator with 7 years' experience in and out of the classroom setting. I have taught for both Cabarrus County Schools and Rowan County Schools in third, fifth, and sixth grade. In 2020, I opened a learning co-op in Cabarrus county to help local students in my community receive a high-quality-in-person education when traditional schools were unavailable. Now students are back in school. I am excited about joining the Hickory Ridge team. In addition to my teaching skills, I have been a part of several committees and school improvement projects. I am always willing to go above and beyond to help my school, students, and the community. I look forward to an entire year of new discoveries and great accomplishments.
