574 small flags covered part of the lawn outside the Bethel School District office on Barger Drive, only for a day.
The flags represent and honor the 574 recognized U.S. Tribal Nations.
The District’s Native Education parent group and Bethel students planted the flags Monday morning for Indigenous People’s Day, which has been recognized in Oregon since 2017.
The parents and students gathered again in the early evening for a very brief ceremony before removing the flags.
