Regular attendance is required by state law and expected from all students. Students who are truant (absent without a valid excuse) will be assigned an appropriate consequence. Students who have excessive absences may be referred to SARB (Student Attendance Review Board). Parents who do not send their children to school may be brought before the District Attorney for prosecution. Children may also be referred to the juvenile court. Failure to send a child to school may also result in a fine for each absence.

• The only reasons a child can be absent from school are personal illness, medical/dental appointments, or death in the immediate family.

• Parents must verify each absence by note or telephone call to the school office at 358-1705. Notification must be on the first day of the absence.

• Parents are responsible for notifying teachers and the office in advance of extended absences. Students are responsible for all missed assignments. Assignments may be obtained from the teacher with 48 hours notice.

• Parents will be mailed letters after 4, 6, and 8 absences. Subsequent absences will be referred to the District for further action.

• Students who have seen a doctor or dentist during school time are to submit notes upon their return to school.

Tardiness

Promptness to class is very important. Students should be in class and in their seats ready to begin the lesson when the tardy bell rings. All late arrivals will be posted on the student’s permanent attendance record. Repeated tardiness will result in a referral to the School Attendance Review Board.

 

Children should miss school only when absolutely necessary.
