Our first trimester will begin with the students investigating mathematical models. They will represent data using graphs, charts, equations, inequalities and rules. Specifically, they will study linear functions, inverse functions, and two-way tables. Students will then examine the difference between rational and irrational numbers and between real and imaginary numbers. They will apply the Pythagorean Theorem to real-world situations. Next, the students will examine exponential functions. Equations and graphs will be created for both exponential growth and decay. The students will use scientific notation throughout the study of exponential growth and decay. They will learn all the rules for multiplying and dividing monomials and for simplifying monomials with positive, negative and fractional exponents.
