Boston, MA. is my original home: I got to Florida as soon as I was able. My years of work have brought me vast experience in many areas, but I have always been involved in teaching. When I was young I taught other people to work with and ride horses. When my oldest daughter was in middle school I ran the town football cheerleading program and coached 2 teams. Throughout the years I have been a 4H leader here in Charlotte county, a Girl Scout leader, a District Commissioner for the United States Pony Club, an after-school program teacher, a tutor, and a foster mom. This step was only natural :).
Important things for parents and students to know:
If a student is not able to come to class or they missed something in class they can find all lesson plans, videos, and assignments readily available online. Students will be able to ask questions through REMIND and email, REMIND being the preferred method of contact.
I expect students to be on time for class. Lessons begin almost immediately after the bell rings and it is extremely disruptive to everyone when I need to stop the instruction to open the door. Besides, it's just good practice for real life!
Eating and/or drinking in my classroom is not allowed. Beverages and food must be consumed before entering the classroom or stowed in backpacks. Students have 5 minutes between classes to eat and drink. When crumbs or anything besides water is present the ants come, nobody wants it, LOL.
ABSOLUTELY NO PHONES during class. All none essential electronic devices must be placed in backpacks BEFORE ENTERING MY CLASS AND for the entirety of class. Phones will be taken and stay with me until the end of the school day; if I see them I take them. Students need to come into the class ready to learn, Snapchat and Instagram are not tools I use in my classroom.
Student assignments are given appropriate due dates. Late work is accepted as follows for unexcused absences or just not on time =1 day late -10% 2 days late -20% 3 days late -30 4 days late -40% NO LATE WORK IS ACCEPTED AFTER 5 DAYS.
Excused absences: STUDENTS WILL BE HELD TO THE DISTRICT MAKEUP WORK POLICY FOUND IN THE STUDENT HANDBOOK.
