Washington High School juniors Ryan Hoerstkamp and Mia Reed are the Washington Missourian Athletes of the Week, sponsored by First State Community Bank.
Hoerstkamp, a 6-4 tight end and defensive lineman for the Blue Jays, has been a key part of the team’s 3-0 start to the season on both sides of the ball.
Offensively, Hoerstkamp is a major receiving threat and has already made several big plays resulting in touchdowns.
In Washington’s 42-14 win at Warrenton on Friday, Sept. 13, Hoerstkamp had four catches for 162 yards and one touchdown on offense and added six tackles, three of them for loss, one sack, a forced fumble and an interception on defense.
Reed, a three-year varsity runner for the WHS cross country team, has started her junior season in a big way.
Reed finished in second place in her division at the First Capital Invitational. She followed that with a victory by 11 seconds at the Sullivan Invitational, setting a new course record in the process, and also finished on the podium in 14th place out of 161 runners at the Forest Park Cross Country Festival.
Reed has accomplished these achievements while maintaining a 4.0 GPA in the classroom.
