The Washington High School Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering (WYSE) academic competition team took second-place honors in regional competition at East Central College on Tuesday, February 7.
“The students who represent our WYSE team are a dynamic group of intellectual students,” said Washington High School Principal Dr. Kelle McCallum. “We are excited about their accomplishments.”

Washington’s individual medalists are as follows:
Biology: First place - Leah Wheeler; Second place - Rachel Derner
Chemistry: Third place - Lily Schmitt
Computer Science: Second place - Micheal Hotra; Third place - Isaac Lough
Engineering Graphics: First place - Tyler Eckelkamp; Second place - Nick Hellebusch
Mathematics: First place - Tyler Eckelkamp; Second place - Isaac Lough; Third place - Kellen Schiermeier and Claire Hellebusch
Physics: Second place - Kellen Schiermeier and Nick Holdmeyer
Advisors are Melissa Mauchenheimer and Amanda Kuntzman.
Sectional competition will take place virtually March 1-15.
