Playing in the championship game of the Class 4 District 2 Softball Tournament on Friday, October 14, top-seeded Washington knocked off second-seeded Rockwood Summit, 2-0.
The Blue Jays, the defending Class 4 state champions, did not allow a run in their three games of the district tournament, defeating Webster Groves 15-0, Windsor 16-0 and Summit, 2-0.
Washington (32-3) advances to the Class 4 quarterfinals against Cape Girardeau Notre Dame (26-4) Wednesday, October 19, at Lakeview Park at 4:30 p.m. The winner moves on the state tournament Thursday and Friday, October 27 and 28, at Killian Softball Complex in Springfield.
Tickets must be purchased online for Wednesday’s quarterfinal game on the MSHSAA website for $8 apiece.

In the district title game, Taylor Brown pitched a three-hit shutout for the Jays, registering 15 strikeouts while allowing three hits and three walks.
Washington, coached by Grant Young and assisted by Tim Zumsteg, collected five hits and scored single runs in the bottom of the third and fifth innings. Maddie Guevara had two hits and one RBI while Myla Inman, Lacy Monzyk and Brown each had one hit. Elizabeth Reed and Monzyk both scored a run.
The Blue Jays dominated the first two games of the district tournament, finishing off both Webster Groves and Windsor in four innings.
Myla Inman had three hits and three RBIs against Webster. Grace Molitor belted two home runs against Windsor, giving her nine for the season, which is the most in school history for a single season. Brown also homered in the game, pushing her season total to eight. She also was the winning pitcher in all three district games.
