Washington High School Varsity Baseball Falls Short in 11-Inning Contest

WHS Home BaseballWashington High School varsity baseball continued GAC Central play with a home contest against Wentzville Liberty at the Fields at South Point on Tuesday afternoon, April 16.

The marathon game lasted 11 innings with the Blue Jays falling short, 3-2.

Liberty broke a 1-1 tie with two runs in the top of the 11th inning. The Blue Jays came back with a run in the bottom of the 11th, but it wasn’t enough.

Kaner Young got the start on the mound for Washington, allowing just one run in seven innings of work on three hits with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Ethan Roewe tossed the final four frames in relief, allowing two runs on no hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

The visiting Eagles won the 11-inning contest despite managing just three hits at the plate.

Washington, coached by Dane Gough, collected seven hits.

Ryan Kassebaum, Henry Vedder and Ryan Williams each had two hits. Williams was on base four times with two walks as well. Kassebaum also drew a walk. Roewe added one hit. Hayden Burns and Ben Gelinas both drew a pair of walks.
