Students in Jessica Fitzgerald’s Chemistry I class at Washington High School recently performed lab work as part of the course requirements.
The students collected data over different samples of matter: length, mass, volume, conductivity, density, and flammability. Then, they identified the properties as extensive or intensive properties.
“My students have responded great to being in lab and our new lab COVID procedures,” Fitzgerald said. “They have assigned stations with assigned materials, equipment, and balances, which are the same as past years. However, the cleaning is a bit more extensive this year with disinfecting all of the equipment, not just the glassware.”
Students are enjoying the lab work while respecting the protocols in place.
“The students are more aware of washing their hands and asking if the safety goggles are sanitized,” Fitzgerald said. “They are at ease knowing the UV bulb kills bacteria and viruses.”
