Soccer Blue Jays Top Ft. Zumwalt North, Union
Washington posted a pair of varsity boys soccer victories over Ft. Zumwalt North and Union on Tuesday and Wednesday, Oct. 2 and 3, respectively.
The Blue Jays pushed their overall record to 9-7-1 heading into their home clash against Borgia on Friday, Oct. 5.
Playing at home, Washington fell behind against Ft. Zumwalt North 1-0, but scored the next two goals for a 2-1 win.
Liam Schneider tied the game 1-1 on a goal late in the first half, assisted by Michael Andrews, to make the score 1-1 at halftime.
The Blue Jays took the lead 2-1 on a goal by Andrews, assisted by Zach Subke, late in the second half and held on for the win.
Ottmar Escalante made eight saves in goal for Washington.
The Blue Jays visited Union on the next day and registered a 4-1 victory over the Wildcats.
Washington grabbed a 3-1 lead at halftime and punched in another in the second half.
Andrews netted two goals and added an assist, giving him 20 goals on the season. Ethan Haney and Subke both had one goal and one assist. Escalante also had an assist from his goalie position. He registered six saves.
