Washington High School hosted the Tri-County and Middle School Cross Country Invitational on Monday, Sept. 17.
The meet featured four races; middle school girls (1.5 miles), middle school boys (1.5 miles), junior varsity girls (3.1 miles) and junior varsity boys (3.1 miles).

Junior Varsity Girls
Washington had four runners place in the top eight and claimed the junior varsity girls team title with 49 points. St. Charles finished second with 52 followed by Francis Howell Central with 66 and Ft. Zumwalt South with 71.
Washington’s Jesse Donnelly won the JV girls race in a time of 23:13. McKenna Jacquin of Washington finished second in 23:23. Also for the Lady Jays, Anna Weisbrod placed sixth in 24:55 and Lindsay Sprung was eighth in 25:06.
Also running for Washington were Avery Johnson (15th in 25:56), Allison Meyer (17th in 26:30), Madilynn Kipp (19th in 26:46), Sami Montgomery (23rd in 27:28), Sarah Simons (26th in 27:54), Abby Brown (29th in 28:58), Kristen Monzyk (30th in 28:58), Cecelia Heimos (36th in 30:05), McKenna Deckelman (38th in 30:45) and Anna Buechter (47th in 33:59).
Junior Varsity Boys
Washington’s top finisher in the JV boys race was Nick Corley, who placed seventh in 21:13.
Also running for the Blue Jays were Nick James (12th in 21:56), Garrett Poole (13th in 21:59), Eli Houston (16th in 22:12), Ben Scheperle (23rd in 22:28), Mason Kauffeld (39th in 24:51), Luke Newhouse (52nd in 26:19) and Zane Johnson (58th in 26:56).
Ft. Zumwalt South claimed the JV boys team title with 39 points. Ft. Zumwalt Westy finished second with 66 followed by St. Charles with 67, Washington with 71 and Howell Central with 95.
Middle School Girls
Washington’s Julia Donnelly cruised to the win in the middle school girls race in a time of 10:40, which was 48 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Macie Reed of Pacific (11:28).
Also running for Washington were Alena Nix (13th in 12:28), Mya Wardwell (15th in 12:29), Chloe Hawkins (29th in 14:14), Zoey Ziegler (42nd in 16:01), Elizabeth Scheperle (45th in 16:13), Allison Walch (46th in 16:14) and Rachel Derner (50th in 16:25).
Pacific won the middle school girls team title with 31 points. Sullivan finished second with 81 followed by Black Hawk (83), Washington (93), St. Clair (95) and Troy South (164).
Middle School Boys
Washington’s top runner in the middle school boys race was Austin Gober, who finished in 17th place in a time of 11:47.
Also running for Washington were Zach Gargrave (18th in 11:53), Adric Montgomery (19th in 11:58), Gavin Poole (20th in 11:58), Gabriel Lawson Boothby (39th in 13:32) and Destin Boland (53rd in 16:30).
Pacific’s Nick Himkins won the middle school boys race in 10:07.
Pacific won the middle school boys team title with 47 points. St. Clair finished second with 66 points followed by Troy South (76), Black Hawk (81), Washington (105), Troy Middle (108) and Sullivan (193).
