Construction work on the new South Point Elementary in the School District of Washington is progressing. The new elementary school, located at Highway 100 and St. John’s Road, will replace South Point Elementary.
K&S Associates Inc. of St. Louis is handling the construction of the new building.
Josh Quick, Project Manager with K&S Associates, gave a tour of the progress being made to School District of Washington administrators, Buildings and Grounds staff, and Board of Education members on Thursday, December 10.
Greg Coudron with Landmark Contract Management is the owner’s representative/construction manager for the project, and also was on the tour.
The two-story, approximately 78,000-square-foot school, will serve kindergarten through sixth grade. It is designed to serve up to 550 students, but could be expanded in the future.
The building will be angular with both rustic and industrial flair inside and out featuring a dynamic color scheme, collaborative spaces for each grade level, a light-filled library/maker space, a playground in the back, and the gymnasium will feature a wood floor. It also follows best practices for learning and teaching.
The new school is being funded through Prop S, a $26 million no-tax increase bond issue approved by voters in April 2019.
The name of the new school will remain South Point Elementary. The school is slated to open in August 2021.
