Sixth-grade students at Marthasville Elementary showcased a wax museum in the school’s gymnasium on Thursday morning, March 7.
The students read a Holocaust novel, “The Boy in the Striped Pajamas,” and researched a historical figure from that period of time, including Holocaust survivors. They shared what they learned with Marthasville staff and other students in the wax museum.
The sixth-grade students made displays that were stationed throughout the gym.
Much like wax museum figures, the sixth-grade students stood by their respective displays and waited for their hand to be tapped by a visitor. When it was, the student gave a brief presentation on who they researched and what they contributed to society.
Some of the historical figures and Holocaust survivors on display included Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Rosette Wolczak, Jacqueline Cochran, Nicholas Winton, Gloria Hollander Lyon, Jeannine Burk, Joseph Sher, Oskar Schindler, Shep Zitler, Lucie Aubrac, Susanne Ledermann, Shulim Saleschutz, Eva Galler, Ruth Freund Reiser, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Sophie Weisz.
