Kicking off Red Ribbon Week at Marthasville Elementary, a national campaign focusing on drug awareness, an assembly was held on Monday morning, Oct. 15.
Buildings throughout the School District of Washington are recognizing Red Ribbon Week in October.
Marthasville Elementary students heard from guest speakers about the importance of saying no to drugs. Speaking were:
Greg Garrett, Washington Police Officer and School Resource Officer.
Eric Dobelmann, representing the Washington Elks (sponsoring Red Ribbon Week). He works for Gateway Drug Screening and the Franklin County Narcotics Enforcement Unit;
Representing the Washington High School volleyball team were Coaches Susan Harms and Doris Jones, along with senior student athletes Lacey Jaycox, Emma Zanin, Taylor Bauer, Kate Freitag, Josie Kleekamp and Josie Kleinheider.
The message presented by the volleyball players and coaches centered around positive affirmations and ways to improve self-esteem. They handed out treats to seemingly all of the Marthasville students after they gave a positive affirmation about themselves.
