Julia Young, third-grade teacher at Augusta Elementary, is the November recipient of the Blue Jay Pride Award.
The Blue Jay Pride Award was introduced to recognize and showcase quality School District of Washington staff and the focus on the District’s core beliefs. Through peer nomination, individuals are able to acknowledge exceptional staff who positively impact the schools, district and community.
The individual who is recognized each month will be presented with a traveling plaque and a gift bag.
Young’s nomination forms stated the following:
“Mrs. Julia Young is a strong, loving, inclusive teacher at Augusta Elementary who takes her time to plan and execute lessons that are both interactive and engaging to her students. She teaches her students about life cycles and has her third graders hatch chicks. She has taken on the role of having her class learn about ecosystems and has them out in our garden planting milkweed, mums and weeding the garden. Mrs. Young is a teacher that students always remember and come back for. She, almost always, has A+ kids with her and they love getting to come back to be a part of her classroom as high schoolers. She is a committed Blue Jay. She has participated on the Superintendent Advisory Committee, she takes on mentors to help them to grow and learn, and she is active in our school's extracurricular activities after hours. When we invite our older students out for various events, so often many of them will identify Mrs. Young as being their favorite because she has always made them feel safe, welcomed and loved. Mrs. Young is an asset to the School District of Washington and especially to Augusta Elementary.”
Young was presented the Blue Jay Pride Award traveling plaque by SDOW Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart. She also received a gift bag from the Bank of Washington. Representing the Bank of Washington were Buzz Eckelkamp, Melissa Buel, Brenden Brinker, Kathy Trentmann and Cathy Weber.
