The School District of Washington is excited to take part in the “STL Teacher Proud” campaign, put on by Education Plus, as an effort to highlight the amazing teachers who choose to serve the St. Louis community and inspire others to join the noble profession of teaching. On the second Tuesday of each month, we’ll highlight a SDOW teacher who chooses to make a difference every day.
Teacher Proud Tuesday – Heather Sugg, Early Childhood Special Education Para, Early Learning Center
Heather Sugg has been in education for four years, all with the School District of Washington. After starting as a lunch aide at Washington West Elementary, Sugg got a position as special education para at West, and did that for one year. She then went to Washington Middle School as a SPED para for one year. From there, she moved to the Early Learning Center as an early childhood special education para. This is her second year at the ELC.
“I’ve always had the need and desire to help. Who better to help than children? This is my second year at the Early Learning Center and I couldn’t be happier,” Sugg said. “What I enjoy most about education is seeing a child master a skill or a goal. Nothing compares to the feeling I get when I see children feeling proud of themselves.”
“If ever there was a team player, it’s Heather Sugg. As a member of the Early Childhood Special Education team, Heather is always willing to jump in and help any student or staff member,” said Early Learning Center Director Jennifer Meyer. “She often anticipates a need and offers to help out before we even know that we have that need. Throughout the day, Heather demonstrates continuous flexibility as she anticipates student needs. Even on extra challenging days, if you see Heather, she will have a smile and a kind word to share. The Early Learning Center is lucky to have her as a member of our team.”
