On December 13, Project Lead The Way Engineering students at Four Rivers Career Center completed a three-week project in which they collaborated with students in the Machine Tool, Building Trades, and Welding programs to plan, fabricate, test, and amend designs for catapults based on research conducted by the PLTW Engineering students.
A demonstration of the catapults was provided, in which student groups took turns launching tennis balls at targets of varying distances.
"This project met and exceeded the PLTW curriculum requirements by incorporating a Washington STRONG mindset," said Nick Straatmann, PLTW Engineering instructor. "The inter-program relationships we foster at Four Rivers allowed the students in various programs to work together to accomplish their goals just as they will in a future industry setting. The other program instructors, Dan Kemper, Tim Bruckerhoff, Blake Poertner, Rob York, and Jeff Frankenberg were supportive and helpful through the whole process."
