Washington High School returned to its winning ways with a 29-14 varsity football victory at Wentzville Liberty on Friday night, October 1.
The Blue Jays improved to 3-3 overall on the season while picking up their first GAC Central win, moving to 1-2 in league play.
Washington never trailed against Liberty (2-4, 1-2), holding leads of 7-0 after one quarter, 15-7 at halftime and 22-7 after three quarters. The Blue Jays led 29-7 before the Eagles scored a late touchdown.
Washington quarterback Cam Millheiser rushed for two touchdowns in the game from 17 yards and 25 yards.
Landon Boston had a two-yard touchdown run and Evan Gaither added an eight-yard touchdown run.
Devon Deckelman was 3-3 in extra point attempts and also rushed for a two-point conversion.
Washington rushed for 314 yards. Millheiser carried the ball 15 times for 102 yards and two touchdowns and completed a 11-yard pass to Ryan Jostes. Gaither rushed for 90 yards on 18 attempts and one touchdown. Boston rushed for 66 yards on 16 attempts and one touchdown. Deckelman carried the ball 12 times for 56 yards.
Washington’s defense held Liberty to 136 total yards.
Blue Jays’ defensive lineman Trevor Buhr, a junior, became Washington’s all-time sacks leader during the contest. Sam Rost also had a sack. Aden Pecka had an interception.
Washington's C team defeated Liberty on Monday, October 4, 26-13.
Washington varsity will host Francis Howell North (1-5, 0-3) for Homecoming Friday, October 8, at 7 p.m.
