Family Reading Night, a free community event organized by The Missourian, was held on Friday, March 6, at Washington Middle School.
This year’s guest author/illustrator is Peter H. Reynolds. The creator of dozens of books, including past Missourian Book Buzz Picks “The Dot” and “Word Collector,” Reynolds will share his newest book, “Be You!,” an upcoming March Book Buzz Pick.
In celebration of the book, the theme for this year’s Family Reading Night was “Be A Reader!”
Children who attended Family Reading Night listened to stories read by community leaders and local high school students, participated in crafts based on books, and won books.
Washington Parents as Teachers held a toddler activity room throughout the event.
The Washington Police Department held its annual skit in the gymnasium.
Readers representing the School District of Washington were: Washington NJROTC, WHS Cheerleaders, WHS Football Team, WHS Swim Team, WHS Wrestling Team and WHS Theater Guild. See the photos below.
This was the 20th Family Reading Night, which celebrates families reading together. The event was sponsored by The Missourian, School District of Washington and Washington Optimist Club.
Additional support was provided by the Washington High School Football Team, Washington NEA, the Washington Public Library, Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of New Haven, Neighborhood Reads Bookstore and more than 100 volunteers.
