Elana Vogt, currently a fourth-grade student at South Point Elementary, recently was recognized as the Missouri State Winner of the Third Grade Cabbage Program.
Each school year, Bonnie Plants, located in California, Mo., holds the Third Grade Cabbage Program contest by distributing cabbage plants to each third-grade student in Missouri.
The students then have the opportunity to grow their plants over the next several months. The student who grows the largest plant is crowned the winner.
Vogt grew the largest plant of any third-grade student in the state. For her efforts, she was awarded a $1,000 college scholarship by Bonnie Plants.
Vogt was recognized during an assembly for third- and fourth-grade students at South Point Elementary on Friday, Jan. 10. Presenting the $1,000 scholarship to Vogt was Seth Kueffer of Bonnie Plants. He also answered a number of questions from students regarding the growing of cabbage plants during the assembly.
