WHS Senior Devon Deckelman Named Recipient of MIAAA/NIAAA Scholarship

Devon Deckelman ScholarshipWashington High School senior Devon Deckelman has been named a 2022 MIAAA/NIAAA (Missouri Interscholastic Activities Administrators Association/National Interscholastic Activities Administrators Association) scholarship essay winner from Missouri, one of two recipients from the state who receive a $1,000 scholarship.

There were a total of 28 applicants for the scholarship this year. Candidates for the scholarship must complete an essay, an application, and have two letters of recommendation. The essay must describe in the student-athlete’s words, “How high school athletics have impacted their life.”

Recipients must be a senior in high school, hold a B+ average, rank in the top 25 percent of their class, and score above a 24 on the ACT. They also must participate in at least two sports for at least two years and have one varsity letter in each of the two sports.

Deckelman is a three-sport student-athlete at WHS; participating in football, wrestling and golf, and holds a 3.91 grade-point average in the classroom.

Deckelman’s scholastic honors include Academic All-State and All-Conference in Football, and Academic All-Conference in Wrestling and Golf. His athletic participation includes:
Football for four years; honors include All-District and All-Conference.
Wrestling for four years; honors include All-Area, district champion and a two-time state qualifier.
Baseball for two years and Golf for two years.

Devon is the son of Bill and Ashley Deckelman and Stephanie and Ryan Kliethermes. He plans on attending Lindenwood University in the fall.
