Danette Wood, second-grade teacher at Labadie Elementary, is the December recipient of the Blue Jay Pride Award.
The Blue Jay Pride Award was introduced to recognize and showcase quality School District of Washington staff and the focus on the District’s core beliefs. Through peer nomination, individuals are able to acknowledge exceptional staff who positively impact the schools, district and community.
The individual who is recognized each month will be presented with a traveling plaque and gift card.
Wood’s nomination form states the following:
“Mrs. Wood has been an intricate part in shaping the little lives of many of our little learners. She started as a preschool teacher and is now a second grade teacher at Labadie Elementary. Each and every day, Mrs. Wood greets her students at the door before they even cross the door frame. She starts each day with excitement and carries that excitement throughout each day. She knows all of her students and meets their needs to the best of her ability. She is quick to respond when a student is having tough times and is over the top in celebrating a students' successes, big or small. Her daily chants to cheer each other on in the classroom provides an opportunity for each student to take part in classroom celebrations. Mrs. Wood sits on the Building Leadership Team and often is a part in brainstorming, creating, and executing plans for student celebrations. She comes with meaningful ideas that are student centered. She reaches out to families to keep them in the loop with how their student is doing. Overall, Mrs. Wood's positive attitude, much enthusiasm, and personality oozes positivity and that definitely carries over into the classroom and building."
Wood was presented the traveling plaque by SDOW Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Kephart and Labadie Elementary Principal Jennifer Pecka. She also received a gift card from the Bank of Franklin County.
