Recognizing Red Ribbon Week, a national campaign focusing on drug awareness, Campbellton Elementary School held an assembly on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
Buildings throughout the School District of Washington recognize Red Ribbon Week.
Campbellton Elementary students heard from guest speakers about the importance of saying no to drugs. Speaking were:
Mindy Schmelz, Washington Police Officer and School Resource Officer. Also on hand was Washington Police Chief Ed Menefee;
Eric Dobelmann, representing the Washington Elks (sponsoring Red Ribbon Week). He works for Gateway Drug Screening and the Franklin County Narcotics Enforcement Unit;
Donnie Dunn and Anthony Davis, along with their dogs, Dino and Rolo, from the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office;
Washington High School Assistant Boys Soccer Coach Brian Dougherty and current WHS soccer players Dana Cates, Zach Subke, Blake Peters and Santino Vuocolo.

Also recognizing Red Ribbon Week, Ryan Lawyer of Drug Enforcement Agency spoke with fifth- and sixth-grade students at Campbellton on Monday, Oct. 22, about his job and the importance of saying no to drugs. See pictures below.
