Washington High School swimmer Ava Kauffeld is the Washington Missourian Athlete of the Week, sponsored by First State Community Bank.
Kauffeld, a junior, won two state medals to lead Washington at the MSHSAA Class 1 Championships. She finished in third place in the 100 Breaststoke in a time of 1:08.14, the program’s highest ever state finish. She also was third in the preliminaries in 1:07.53.
In the 200 Medley Relay, Kauffeld, Maddy Henderson, Zoey Ziegler and Ellie Williams placed seventh in a time of 1:56.79 to earn all-state honors. The team also was seventh in the preliminaries in a school record time of 1:55.75.
In the consolation races, Kauffeld placed 12th in the 200 Individual Medley in 2:15.58. She also was 12th in the prelims in a school record time of 2:15.19.
