Three students from Augusta Elementary were selected to be part of the Southwest American Choral Directors Association (SWACDA) 5-6-7 Treble Honor Choir.
Students selected were sixth-graders Thurman Cook and Daphne Bohrmann and fifth-grader Daniel Meadows.
Students submitted an audition via audio recording and were selected based on three screeners for each voice part, and all auditions were screened blind (by audition number only).
Approximately 700 students from Missouri, Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Arkansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma auditioned with about 200 being selected.
“This is a huge deal and such an honor to be selected for such a prestigious event,” said Augusta Elementary vocal music teacher Jon Logan.
The three Augusta students will travel to Little Rock, Ark., on February 28 - March 3, 2022, to rehearse and perform with world renowned conductor, teacher, and compose Dr. Victor Johnson and perform music at the highest level.
“This will be a life changing experience for our students,” Logan said. “Speaking from personal experience, as I was part of this same honor choir when I was their age, they will make friendships and memories that will last a lifetime.”
