Our goal at Vestavia Hills Elementary West is to ensure that all students develop a love of reading and read proficiently. Proficient readers are better able to master academic content, succeed in school and reach their life potential. Vestavia Hills Elementary West is an Alabama Reading Initiative site. Language Arts instruction at VHEW is based on five essential components of reading.

Vestavia Hills City School have adopted the reading series Wonders published by McGraw Hill for Grades K-5. In addition, teachers use a variety of other resources to enhance Language Arts instruction.
