Mrs. Susan McCall

Susan McCall has been the Principal at Vestavia Hills Elementary West since 2024. She has more than 30 years of experience in education and previously served as the assistant principal of VHEW for 8 years.  She taught first and second grade students in Gwinnett County, Georgia for 15 years. Her family relocated to the Birmingham area, and she taught for five years in Hoover. Then Susan moved to Cherokee Bend Elementary in Mountain Brook where she served as the Reading Coach for five years.  Susan has her Masters of Education from the University of Georgia and her Educational Specialist from Brenau University.  However, she is most proud of her Bachelor of Science from her beloved Mississippi State University.  Hail State! She is a National Board Certified Teacher with a focus on Literacy: Reading-Language Arts.

Susan’s husband, Andrew, works for MSC Industrial Supply.  Her twin daughters, Hannah Beth and Emily Grace, are recent graduates of Mississippi State University.  As a family, they enjoy traveling to explore new places. So far, they have visited 48 states!

Susan is thrilled to be a part of the strong team of educators at West.  She is committed to this community’s strong tradition of promoting learning with high expectations.  All students can learn without limits when provided the nurturing environment and support they need.
