Cyberbullying is when a child, preteen or teen is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted by another child, preteen, or teen using the Internet, interactive and digital technologies or mobile phones.
Why do Kids Cyberbully?
Revenge, boredom, anger, jealousy, power, for laughs, for entertainment, by accident.
Prevent Cyberbullying
1. Keep your personal information private.
2. Don't leave cell phones where others may have access to them.
3. Tell friends to stop cyberbullying activities.
4. Respect the privacy of others.
5. Google yourself to find out if someone else has posted information about you without your knowledge.
6. Do not send pictures of someone else, without first obtaining their permission.
7. Never give out your password.Possible Effects of Cyberbullying on Victims
1. Decrease in self-esteem
2. Depression, anxiety, self injury
3. Drug and/or alchol abuse
4. Psychological scarsHow to Respond to Cyberbullying
1. Don't answer, engage or interact
2. Print or save all abusive email, texts, IM's, etc.as evidence.
3. Block and report the offender.
4. Tell a trusted adultIf someone is harassing, stalking or threatening to hurt you, report the incidents to school officials, or to the local police.
