Special Education Department Objectives
Objective 1: To refine and monitor the method of monitoring student progress in all general education classes and special day classes on a quarterly basis using the system that was established during the 2004-2005 year.
Why Objective was selected: To ensure systematic monitoring of student progress as it relates to the content standards and student success.
How Objective relates to the standards and the school vision/ESLRs/direction: (a) Meeting the needs of all students; (b) Providing support to all students.
Activities to Meet Objective: (a) Staff will meet to refine the student intervention report form; (b) At the end of each progress report and quarter, all special education staff will review the grades of all students on their caseloads. If a student is receiving a D or an F in a class, the special education staff will analyze the problem with the student and develop a plan to improve the student’s performance in the class or classes; (c ) Staff will meet to discuss the results and make any modifications after the completion of the first semester and after the completion of the second semester.
How will this objective be monitored and by whom: All members of the department will meet during department meetings and discuss the progress of each student’s plan.
Objective 2: Continue to analyze and monitor special education students’ scores on the CAHSEE. To provide additional supports and training to ensure that as many students as possible pass the exam.
Why objective was selected: At the present time all special education students are required to pass the CAHSEE before graduating from high school with a diploma. All students who began high school in the resource specialist program have passed the CAHSEE requirement and will meet the course requirements for graduation. One third of the students who began high school in the special day classes have passed the exit exam. The department’s goal is to have as many students as possible pass the exam.
How Objective relates to the standards and the school vision/ESLRs/direction: Provide access to a rigorous curriculum for all students. Support for all students.
Activities to meet objective: All special education staff will meet to review the individual student data after each administration of the CAHSEE. Staff will analyze individual test scores and target instruction in those areas. Staff will continue to review additional teaching materials that are available to support CAHSEE intervention.
How will this objective be monitored and by whom: Students will improve scores on the CAHSEE. Administration will provide data to department chair.
