Community Colleges

The Value Proposition of Community College and Admissions Requirements:

The 116 CA Community Colleges are all open-access institutions, so you are admitted with a high school diploma/GED regardless of your age, prior course work, or grades. If you do not have a high school diploma, you are admitted if:

               a.  you are eighteen years of age or older, or

               b.  you have successfully passed the Calif High School Proficiency Exam, or

               c.  you have successfully passed the GED (General Education Development Exam).  Please check with the San Rafael Adult School for more information.

If you are currently in high school and would like to enroll in COM classes, please refer to our Jumpstart Program on our High School Programs webpage for more information.

Undocumented Students Who Are Eligible as AB 540 Students: if you have attended California schools for 3 years and graduated or attended California high schools for 3 years and obtained your GED (high school diploma equivalency) you are considered an AB 540 student. This means that you can pay the same in-state tuition as if you were a citizen or documented resident at all California public colleges and universities (Community or Junior Colleges, California State Universities, and the University of California campuses).

JUMPSTART PROGRAM:  CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT AT COM

If you are interested in taking a College of Marin class while enrolled in high school, please make sure you complete the following tasks. COM waives the enrollment fees ($46/unit, also called tuition) while you are in high school although you will need to pay for student fees, books, and supplies.

  1. Use our online class schedule to figure out which course you would like to take

  2. Apply for credit classes as a "Enrolling in High School and College...":  Apply here.

  3.    Once you have submitted the application, watch for the Welcome Message with your COM ID number, username and instructions to set up your MyCOM Student Portal.  You can also refer to the "How To Videos" on the Enrollment Services webpage.

  4. Sign up for a Jumpstart Orientation using the link on Step 2 under Jumpstart.

  5.  Please be sure to submit the CCP form (College Credit Program) through your MyCOM Portal with your COM ID number, course name and section number (CRN).   You will need to submit the CCP Form every semester you plan to enroll in a COM class while you are in high school.

  6. Register for your course after the designated priority registration date.
