Lacrosse
THE GAME
Lacrosse is the oldest team sport in North America and possibly the world. It may have developed as early as the 1100s, but since then it has seen many modifications. In the traditional Native American version, each team consisted of about 100 to 1,000 men on a field that stretched from about 500 yards to a couple of miles long. These lacrosse games lasted from sunup to sundown for two to three days straight
Today, men's lacrosse is a contact game played by ten players: a goalie, three defensemen, three midfielders and three attackmen. The object of the game is to shoot the ball into the opponent's goal. The team scoring the most goals wins.
BULLDOGS LACROSSE
San Rafael started JV lacrosse in 2003 and has had Varsity teams since 2004. San Rafael has produced 17 All-MCAL players including 9 First and Second Team selections. The team has played teams from Sacramento to Monterey and typically plays teams from the EastBay and San Francisco outside of Marin league play. We encourage multi-sport athletes and we have had great success with football, basketball, cross-country, and wrestling athletes who are new to lacrosse.
