Mathematics Courses Explained

Davidson provides an opportunity for students to take an alternate pathway in mathematics starting in 7th grade. All students take Math 6 in sixth grade. At the end of the sixth grade year, students are given an assessment. Scores on this assessment, along with grades and teacher recommendation, determine whether students will take Math 7 or Math 7/8. Math 7/8 is a compressed class, meaning that it is Math 7 and half of Math 8 in one school year. This pathway leads to Math 8/Algebra in 8th grade. So the two pathways would be:

Math 6 – Math 7 – Math 8

Math 6 – Math 7/8 – Math 8 Algebra
