Grade 3 Classroom Music
I. Rhythm
- Perform from notation whole notes, dotted half notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes and their rests using percussion instruments or singing
- Identify whole notes, dotted half notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes and their rests by name, relationship to each other and beat value
- Distinguish between duple and triple meter by clapping, playing percussion instruments, singing and listening
- Identify various time signatures and demonstrate understanding of their application by singing, using body percussion, or playing a percussion instrument
II. Singing
- Sing with accurate pitches
- Recognize and sing ascending and decending pitches written on the staff by step
- Solfege Sylables forward and backward using hand signals
III. Tonality
Recognize by listening major, minor, and pentatonic tonalities
- IV. Appreciation
- Identify ABA form, rounds, and cumulative songs from notation and listening
- Demonstrate ABA form, rounds, and cumulative songs from notation and listening
V. International Folk Music, Game-songs and
Dances- Participate singing in languages other than English
- Participate in games and dances that incorporate rhythms
- Performing additional rhythmic percussion parts
- Discuss cultural significance of songs, games, and dances
