Mrs. Katy Caughran

Katy Caughran comes from a family of educators and knew early on she wanted to be in the classroom. She has lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and Alabama. She taught fifth grade in Tallahassee, Florida for two years prior to making Birmingham, Alabama her home. She is celebrating her thirteenth year at Brookwood Forest Elementary as the Enrichment Specialist and fifteenth year teaching.

Katy earned her Bacherlor's Degree in Elementary Education from Flagler College and a Master's Dgree in Gifted Education from the Unversity of Alabama.

In 2015, Katy received a Performance Award for Excellence in Education from Mountain Brook Schools. She was selected to be a part of LEAD, a leadership cohort for Mountain Brooks Schools, and was then accepted as a member of Design Team for LEAD for the last two cohorts. She has served on countless other committees for both MBS and BWF and has mentored new teachers. She has collaborated with teachers across the district to write three Institute for Innovation Grants and has served on the selection committee in 2020.

Katy and her husband, Jack, have been married seven years and live in Homewood with their little girl, Libby (2.5), and a cat named Catman. They love to travel, go hiking, attend concerts, and cheer on The Tide! Katy is also a local artist.

Katy's goal is to help all students find what excites them about learning and help them to build confidence and develop a passion for lifelong learning. While she does work specifically with students who need services in the Enrichment Program, she also teachers a mock United Nations class, JUNA, and collaborates with classroom teachers to reach as many students as possible.
