MSLE General Information

       This year I will continue to implement the Multisensory Structured Language Education intervention for students with reading and writing learning differences.  The curriculum was written by the staff at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Training provided by the Shelton School and Evaluation Center of Dallas, Texas which is the largest school for students with learning differences in the world, www.shelton.org.  The program is accredited by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) and is research based. 

       The program addresses the Five Essential Components of Reading Instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.  As part of the curriculum, students will receive direct instruction in handwriting and spelling as well.

       We are so appreciative of our system’s support, specifically from our district office of special education and our school administration, in providing us the opportunity to participate in the MSLE training and bring this program to our students.  I am one of several Certified Academic Language Therapists in our system who is working to make an impact on reading, writing, and spelling progress for our students in the Mountain Brook Schools.
