Mr. Mitchell Nelson
Mr. Mitchell Nelson is beginning his twelfth year teaching at MBE. Having begun his teaching career at Walker Elementary in Tuscaloosa County, he is entering his sixteenth year of teaching. Mr. Nelson's first three years at MBE were spent teaching Kindergarten. He then spent two years teaching 3rd grade, where he was reunited with several of his former Kindergartners. Mr. Nelson came "home" to Kindergarten here at MBE and begins his seventh year back. Mr. Nelson comes from a family of current and retired teachers including his mother, sister, grandfather, aunts, and cousins. He is so proud to be a part of “the family business.” Mr. Nelson was honored to be chosen as the MBE Teacher of the Year for the 2018-2019 school year.
After going to Kindergarten at Edgewood Elementary in Homewood, Mr. Nelson’s family moved to Oneonta. Upon graduating from Oneonta High School, he headed to Tuscaloosa, where he would earn a degree in Marketing from the University of Alabama, and after deciding years later to teach, a Master’s in Elementary Education. During his time in Tuscaloosa, Mr. Nelson spent the fall of his freshman year marching in the Million Dollar Band. Mr. Nelson then began working as a student manager for Alabama’s women’s soccer team. From there, he would become the PA Announcer for the Crimson Tide’s soccer, softball, and volleyball teams for nearly a decade, and was selected to serve as “the Voice” of the SEC Women’s Soccer Tournament from 2003-2006.
Mr. Nelson has absolutely loved teaching here at MBE and hopes to do so for many years to come.
