    Conference:   3rd period (9:45 AM -10:41 AM)

    Science Tutorials:   Tuesday & Thursday afternoons

    Supplies: Students, in order for you to be successful, you must be prepared. Please bring the following supplies as soon as possible:

    • pencil, Chromebook, 1 spiral notebook, earbuds, paper towels, set of markers and/or colored pencils

    General supplies to be used in all classes: (keep these in your backpack)

    • Pencils with erasers
    • Handheld pencil sharpener
    • Crayons or colored pencils
    • scissors
    • ruler
    • Glue sticks
    • A set of earbuds
    • 2 boxes of Kleenex (Please give these to your 1st or 2nd-period teacher)

    Chromebooks/ Laptops:  You should have your Chromebook with you every day.  Please CHARGE your laptop at home each night so that the computer will run all day. There will not be time or outlet space for you to charge your computer at school. Thank you for your understanding.

    Course Description:  In 6th Grade Science, you will be doing descriptive, comparative, and experimental investigations to explain the world around you. Here are some examples of what we will be learning:

    Organisms and environments - cells, taxonomic classification of organisms, biotic and abiotic organisms, and levels of an organization with an ecosystem

    Matter and energy - elements, compounds, evidence of chemical change, properties of matter, and sources of energy

    Force, motion, and energy -  potential and kinetic energy, speed, calculating changes in motion, and investigating force with pulleys and planes

    Earth and space - layers of the Earth, classifying rocks, identifying tectonic plates, and describing major geological events

    Some in-class science projects to look forward to this year: Essentials of Handwashing and Safety, Learning Ecosystems, Energy Sources Project and Heat Loss Project in the fall semester, and Catapult Project and Celestial Object Project in the spring semester.

    We want you to feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.  If there is something going on with your child that you think we should know about, please let us know.  If there’s a problem with something that went on in class, let’s talk about it.  We want to keep communication open so that there are no misunderstandings.  We REALLY DO want your child to be successful in school, to feel safe, and to be happy.  Let’s work together!

    Grading Policy:
    40% Daily Grades:  warm-ups, quizzes, homework, in-class assignments, and interactive Science notebook
    60% Major Grade:  tests, projects, labs

    Late assignments: If you are absent, it is your responsibility to get the make-up work.  I will be available before or after school to help you catch up on what you missed.  Please see your Google Classroom - there are points deducted from assignments for late work.

    Tests:  If you receive a grade below 70 on a test, you will have the opportunity to retake the test only after attending tutorials.
