Master of Science in Education, Samford University Gifted Specialist
Mrs. Teresa Schmidt
Teaching gifted students is my passion. I am so excited to be working with your children this year. Your student will have the opportunity to be involved in a learner-centered environment that empowers them to put a mark on the world. It will be a year of exploring project-based and passion-driven projects intended to cultivate leadership skills, executive skills, and an innovative growth mindset. Through self-guided exploration, research and reflection, students will gain a greater understanding of themselves as learners, problem solvers, and contributing members of society.
I am originally from the lovely state of Florida, where I started teaching later in life. My first degree was in Forensic Science. Before children, I was a Fire Investigator with a private firm determining the cause and origin of fires. There are some great stories during this time of my life! After marriage and children, I went back to school for my second degree in K-6th Elementary Education. I taught Kindergarten and fourth grade. When I moved to Alabama, I began teaching gifted students and attended Samford University to become a Gifted Specialist. I loved teaching but quickly realized my passion ignited when working with gifted students. Currently, this is my ninth year as a Gifted Specialist.
My husband is a retired US Army Aviation Officer. Currently, he is an Aerospace Engineer with the US Army. We have four kids, a daughter-in-law and one grandchild. We live in the country and have a dog, twenty-seven chickens and two cows. We plan to add many more farm animals. I love sitting on the porch and sharing time with my family.
I am honored to be a part of Madison City Schools and Horizon. Please feel free to contact me. I look forward to working with you and your amazing children.
