School of Choice Policy:
Joplin Schools has adopted a policy of school choice. An in-district transfer permit is required for an elementary student to attend a school outside of their designated attendance area. Parents can begin filling out permit requests for the next school year on the first school day in May. Parents will turn permit requests in to the school that they request their student/s to attend. Students who were permitted last year will have first preference. Permits will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
Parents can also obtain a permit request at the Administration Building (Memorial Education Center, 825 S. Pearl Ave.) during summer break. These requests will be forwarded to the schools when offices open in August. Building principals will make permit decisions the week prior to school starting. There are no middle school permits—so please select an elementary school that feeds into the middle school zone of your child’s residence. Find that information here.
Permit questions may be directed to the Office of Instructional Services at 417-625-5200 ext. 2006. (Reference: Board of Education policy JCB)
