Be Within Dress Code

Dress Code

Students are expected to dress in an appropriate fashion that does not interfere with or distract from the educational process.  As fashion trends change, there may be a need to modify the dress code.  When this occurs, parents will be notified via ParentSquare, in a letter mailed home, or in a PTSA newsletter.  The Dwyer Dress Code recognizes the following:  Cleavage (of any kind) is absolutely not permitted.  Push-up bras or silk-like blouses without support coverage are absolutely not permitted.

CLOTHING (Clothing at must be appropriate and businesslike; Dwyer Staff has the authority to discern what is/isn’t appropriate)

ü        Blouses and shirts must completely cover the stomach and chest; not be low cut (business-like attire is recommended and requested)

ü        Shirts must not expose the back. Half-shirts halter tops are not permitted even if worn over a T shirt (business-like attire is recommended and requested)

ü        Tank tops must cover the shoulder and front chest area and not be low cut that may in any way (should cover undergarments and be at least 2 finger width wide).

ü        T Shirts must not have any writing or pictures that are deemed disrespectful or offensive

ü        Any “spaghetti-straps” are not to be worn; Tube tops (any shirt that leaves the shoulders bare), underwear-type tops, and halter tops are not permitted. 

ü        Clothing that has the appearance of being lingerie, undergarments, bras or pajamas are not permitted (all Dwyer Staff has the authority to discern what is/isn’t appropriate)

ü        Dresses, skirts, and shorts must be an appropriate length and not expose undergarments, or create a distraction (all Dwyer Staff has the authority to discern what is/isn’t appropriate)

ü        Wearing “short-shorts” is not permitted

ü       Wearing shorts underneath a mini-skirt is not acceptable (business-like attire is recommended and requested)

ü        Oversized pants or shorts are not permitted

ü        Long shorts with high socks that overlap are not allowed

ü        Pants should not hang below the waist to reveal undergarments

ü        Dresses, shorts, and skirts that are tight or revealing or otherwise inappropriate are not permitted

ü        Gang related clothing is not permitted, including initial belts/necklaces, chains, wallets with chains, gang monikers.  Any combination of clothing that law enforcement currently considers gang related (these may change frequently) is not permitted

ADDITIONAL DRESS CODE POLICY INFORMATION  Teachers/Staff/Administration/Volunteers on the site have the authority to refer a student for hairstyle, footwear, accessory or fashion trend violations. 

HAIRSTYLE POLICY  Extreme hairstyles (such as a Mohawk, etc), or any cut that distracts from the educational process are not permitted.

FOOTWEAR POLICY

¨        Shoes must be worn.  Beach sandals, flip-flops, and any other shoes without heel straps are not permitted

¨        Platform or high-heeled shoes are not permitted.

¨        Shoes should be secured to the foot and must have a heel strap.

¨        Steel-toed shoes and heelies are not permitted. 

 

ACCESSORY POLICY

 

¨        Broad-rimmed hats, visors, or baseball caps worn forward.

¨        Hats OR hoods are not to be worn in any buildings.

¨        Sunglasses may be worn outdoors ONLY.

¨        Students may not wear safety pins or sharp studs/hoops on clothing or exposed skin areas .

¨        Body piercing on face, head, tongue (or any visible area) are considered a safety concern and may not be worn (pierced earrings may be worn within reason).

¨        Make up must be non-distracting to the classroom environment.  ANY extreme lipstick colors (black blue, purple, excessive pink or red,etc.) are not permitted.

¨        Make up must not be used in the classroom or taken out at any time while class is in session.

 

FASHION TREND POLICY

As it is not possible to include every style, trend or haircut in the Dress Code, students are asked to respect the “Spirit of the Dress Code” and dress appropriately for an orderly and businesslike environment.  Staff and administration have the discretion to decide what constitutes objectionable or inappropriate violations.
