NJHS Dwyer Charter Information

The purpose of the Dwyer National Junior Honor Society Charter shall be to honor and encourage a spirit of scholarship; to encourage citizenship; to give opportunities to serve the community, and to acknowledge and promote the building of a strong character in each of its members.

Dwyer National Junior Honor Society Charter students must meet the following scholarship criteria to be eligible for membership:

Scholarship - Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 (on a 4.0 scale) in the current school year (qualification is based on prior school year GPA), have no “U’s” in citizenship during the first 3 quarters of the current school year, and no “N’s” in citizenship during the first 3 quarters of the current school year.  Students cannot have been suspended, received any discipline demerits, or been expelled during the current school year.

The National Junior Honor Society’s tenets are based on the following characteristics:

Service - This quality is defined through the voluntary contributions made by a student to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit.

Leadership - Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

Character - The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others, and generally maintains a good and clean lifestyle.

Citizenship - The student who demonstrates citizenship understands the importance of civic involvement, has a high regard for freedom, justice, and democracy, and demonstrates mature participation and responsibility through involvement with such activities as scouting, community organizations, and school clubs.

Students have been given access to our Dwyer NJHS Page that gives more information regarding community service opportunities, hours, and how to submit hours.

SERVICE HOURS

7th and 8th Graders are required to have a minimum of 18 hours by May 12, 2023. During the Pandemic, we understand it can be difficult to work safely with community organizations and that is why we are allowing beach clean-ups with parents as the organization and their signature.

Hours on or after July 1st count toward the next school year.

LOG YOUR HOURS digitally from your Go-Card (link on Home Page).
