    Dear Parents,

The coaches of the Maroon Magic Dance Team are excited for another great year of dance team!

On Friday June 3rd, 2022, the Maroon Magic Dance Team will be selected through tryouts.  The number of members selected will be determined by the natural break in scores.  The final score for your child will be determined by 1) Teacher Evaluations, 2) Coach Evaluation, and 3) the Judges.

There will be a MANDATORY parent/participant meeting on Thursday May 19th, 2022, at the MNHHS Library. All participants must attend the meeting with a parent or guardian in order to tryout.  There will be NO EXCEPTIONS.  The coaches will review the dance team expectations, booster officers from the previous year will review finances, and all forms and fees must be turned in at this time.

Each potential dancer must have a KHSAA physical form filled out by a physician (if you have a current physical on file at your school, a copy must be sent or faxed to MNHHS, with attention to Dance Team). ALL INFORMATION MUST BE FILLED OUT!  The parental consent and

insurance information must be completed as well or the participants will not be allowed to attend any clinics or tryout for the team.

The following items are required to try out and to be submitted at the meeting on May 19th.

    • Completed KHSAA Physical.
    • Signed Constitution & Demerit Policy.
    • Signed Uniform Agreement
    • $20 Clinic Fee. Cash only, exact change, in an envelope with child’s name on the outside.
    • A copy of your most recent grade report. If you have any failing grades, you cannot try out.
    • A money order (made to MNHHS Dance Team Boosters) or exact cash in the amount of $100.00 to cover NDA camp deposit. Please place money in a self-addressed envelope in case the participant does not make the team. Refunds will be mailed on Monday, June 6th
    • Four teacher/coach recommendations. MUST be in a sealed envelope, with seal signed by the teacher/coach. Only 1 recommendation can be a coach and MUST be current teachers.

PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOU HAVE ALL REQUIRED PAPERWORK SO THAT THINGS WILL GO AS SMOOTHLY AS POSSIBLE DURING TRYOUTS!

    About Tryouts:

Tryouts move quickly and can be quite stressful for some participants.  The participants will be taught a series of skills and a dance comprised of 3 styles: pom/fight song, sideline, and hip hop. Clinics are not mandatory, but if the participants do not attend, their scores will suffer.  It is recommended you get with another experienced dancer to review skill requirements prior to the clinic dates.  Further details about tryouts will be presented at the mandatory meeting.

    Important Notes:

If selected for the team, you and your child will incur high expenses.  We do our best to raise money through fundraising activities. However, each participant will be expected to pay their own way to

NDA Dance Camp, costing approximately $173. All dancers MUST attend camp to be on the team.  Half of the camp money will be due at the parent meeting, and the remaining balance of $73+ will be due two weeks later.  Other costs out of pocket that do not involve fundraising are dance jazz shoes (tan and black), hip hop shoes, dance accessories like tights and earrings, and a warm-up.  Used items are available from past dancers, so please contact the coach as soon as possible if you are interested.  Costs from last year will be available at the parent meeting.

Practice will start the mid-June, and a summer schedule will be provided after tryouts are complete.  We realize summer is an important time for family vacations and summer camps, but summer practice is crucial to building dance foundations for the year.  You will be expected to provide dates to the coaches for any known vacations/camps at the mandatory parent meeting on April 11th, and there will be a limit to excused practices. We will have dead period from June 25th - July 9th. You must take all vacations/camps during this time. If you can’t make summer practices, then you should not try out. Makeup practices/conditioning will be expected for those who miss more practices than allotted, simply because it is not fair to those who may not miss practice at all.

Certain months in dance will be considered high season (November-March) and there will be times where it seems like you do nothing but something involving dance!  It is important to know that at times there will be all-day Saturday practices, lengthy week-day practices, fundraisers, ballgames, competitions, charitable activities, sometimes one after the other, week after week.

Dance is a year-round activity!  We want you to know what you are getting into before you decide halfway through the year that you want to quit because it is too expensive, takes up too much time, etc.  We do not want anyone to quit when we could have picked someone else in your child’s place.

Please contact Whitney Coke via email at wkcoke@yahoo.com with any questions or concerns you may have.  If email is unavailable to you, you may text Whitney at (270) 339-9945 and she will respond as soon as possible.  We look forward to working with you!

    Good Luck!
