If we teach today as we taught yesterday, we rob our children of tomorrow.

Weekly Planner
-
We no longer provide paper homework to students. We now offer Extended Learning Opportunities they can do at home for students to get extra practice on skills learned. With Common Core being fully implemented the way in which homework is looked at is very differently. They will receive some worksheets to complete at home, however most of the work will be done on the computer ... :)
Here is the weekly plan for students to do at home.
Transitional Kindergarten
Kindergarten - First Grade
Second - Third Grade
Fourth - Fifth Grade
For Every Student Transitional Kindergarten-Fifth Grade
Monthly Family Project
-
Family projects are not mandatory, but are encouraged because htey are fun family activities! Please turn in family projects so that students can get recognition for the work... :)
Monthly Reading Log
-
It is important that your child, read, be read too every night to build on comprehension and critical thinking skills. It is also beneficial because it builds on word recognition. Please have your child listen to a store and/or read the same story for a whole week. Having them read the same book all week helps build reading fluency and with word identification. I do encourage reading daily and would love to see the books read all month at the end of the month.
Reading every night as a family is a really fun way to hang out and learn together ... :)
Student who turn in their monthly logs will get a sticker on their Homework Folder!

Here are some fun engaging activities to get in a little extra practice at home of things learned in class.
Transitional Kindergarten
Kindergarten - First Grade
Second - Third Grade
Fourth - Fifth Grade
High-Frequency Word List (Sight Words)
Reading Comprehension Practice
-
Please have student watch the story each day and complete the worksheet for that day. If the student is a beginner reader you can pause on pages that have words and ask them to find familiar words from the text.
Listen to a story and/or read the same story for an entire week. Each day you read the story fill in the worksheet for that day to build on comprehension. You may use a library book that you got from the school library, classroom library, home library or city library if you choose too. If not Storyline Online has a great selection and I will provide a story from the site that goes along with the classroom theme for the week.
Initially this may be done orally with the help of an adult writing for the student on the graphic organizer. However, if the child is in Transitional Kindergarten this would be done orally all year long. Parents can also have the student say it orally and they write it and have the child copy that information on the graphic organizer as well. You may highlight the words for the child and have them trace it as well to get more writing practice for the student. On Monday's have the student look at the cover of the book and fill out the worksheet prior to watching the story.
Week 1 Story: Library Lion
Discovery Journal Writing
-
Write what you have learned this week at school then draw a picture of you learning it.
Weekly Letter Writing Practice!
-
Every Friday take the time to write a letter to a friend, classmate, teacher or family member telling them about something that you thought was fun that you did that week.
Initially this may be done orally with the help of an adult writing for the student on the stationary. Parents can also have the student say it orally and they write it and have the child copy that information on the stationary as well. Best practice would be using a highlighter to write what the student says and have the student trace the letters correctly on the stationary.
