Resources to enjoy JDL experience

  • Here are some suggestions that you can use to support literacy in your home language and in Japanese:

    • -Read to your child regularly
    • -Make books available in the home
    • -Expose him/her to her a rich variety of vocabulary in the home
    • -Help your child with his/her homework and make sure it is done on time

One thing that is very important to your child's success in a Japanese immersion program is not to think of Japanese as a difficult language. Though Japanese is very different from English, it is no more difficult  for a child to learn than any other language. A desire to communicate in Japanese will fuel your child's progress. You can encourage play dates with Japanese speaking friends, participate in Japanese cultural events as family and paint a picture of Japanese as a fun language.
