Updated schedules which include specials (Art, Music and PE) and electives have been mailed home. Students will have classes every day during remote learning. Period times are listed on the new schedules. The first day of school will be a Day C, the second will be a Day D and so on continuing with the A-J pattern we have always had. Please do not hesitate to contact the Guidance Office if you have any questions or need to make changes to your schedule.

Welcome back to the GCCS 2020-21 school year. What a difference a year can make! I don’t have to recap all that has happened since last September but I wish to share some of the highlights. We completed our building project, which gave us a beautiful new and modern library as well as upgrades to security, electrical infrastructure, heating and cooling, and a makeover of our business and main office. The CSI (NYSED’s Comprehensive Support & Improvement) process guided our many initiatives including curriculum mapping, SEL (Social-Emotional Learning), and enhanced professional development for staff. We begin the 2020-21 school-year with a new ELA curriculum that will improve literacy learning for all students. Additionally, we have been able to improve some of the technology inequities, and although not 100%, we have closed the gap considerably with devices, MiFi units, and upgrades to our technology infrastructure. The school staff has never worked harder to get ready for a new school year. Our buildings and grounds personnel are ensuring that the district is ready for the return of staff, and in a few weeks, the return of students. The cafeteria has started prepping meals to be delivered to families as well as getting ready to serve students when they return. Transportation has implemented new cleaning routines and has altered bus routes to meet the Department of Health and State Ed. guidelines for health and safety. Teachers and LTAs have attended many trainings to prepare for remote and hybrid formats and are creating online learning classrooms in Schoology. The principal’s office, guidance office, main office, nurse’s office, and business office staff have updated protocols to streamline processes and enhance communication with families. Our goal is much the same as yours. We want our students back in school and we want our students and staff to be safe and to stay healthy. Upon returning to school this year, all staff are required to sign attestation forms about their physical health and possible exposure to COVID-19. When students return to the building, families will also be required to complete a health attestation for their children. Social distancing and mask protocols are also in place anywhere on school property. There will be more specifics provided to families as we get closer to students retuning to the school building. Remember, remote learning starts on September 9th, 2020. I want to say thank you to our community and to our families and students. This has not been an easy time and we anticipate some obstacles ahead. I ask that you continue to be patient, continue to communicate with us, and continue to support your children. I am proud of how this community comes together in times of struggle. Remember, “The sun always shines in Gilboa.” We cannot wait to see you all. Sincerely, Jack Etter Superintendent Gilboa-Conesville Central School
