The Copiague Public School District is continuously developing and implementing new ways of strengthening the four phases of our Emergency Management Plan in order to provide both students and staff with the safest school environment possible. We employ strict hiring practices, data analysis, emergency drills, environmental design, community relations, comprehensive staff training, high-tech access control, communications, surveillance, and pursue grant opportunities to achieve this goal. We competed for and won a $100,000 Readiness in Emergency Management for Schools Grant by the U.S. Department of Education. The goal of this grant was for the school to achieve NIMS (National Incident Management System) compliancy and to strengthen the prevention/ mitigation and preparedness section of our Emergency Management Plan. Some of these funds were used to purchase safety and security equipment and supplies for the school and to provide training for key members of our staff. One of the high-tech systems implemented as part of this grant is a Visitor Management System for each school. Please click on the link below for further information regarding this system.

Sex offender information can be accessed by clicking the Parent Resources link on the District’s website, or by going directly to www.parentsformeganslaw.org. The District’s internal practices, implemented to ensure the safety of students and staff, will continue. Residents who do not have Internet access may utilize computer facilities at the Copiague Public Library or may send a letter to the District Clerk requesting paper copies of the sex offender notices. In addition, notices will still be available for pick up at the District’s Central Office located at 2650 Great Neck Road.
The following procedures will be utilized to deal with any emergency or weather-related condition. Any change in school hours will be broadcast on our automated telephone communications system and via email if you are registered. Also, you may check the District website for any changes.
When the weather is such that conditions deteriorate throughout the morning, the Copiague schools may dismiss as follows:
This schedule will allow the earlier bus runs additional time for the completion of their routes and will ensure that elementary dismissals will not be delayed. The plan will enable elementary students to arrive at home as close to their regularly scheduled time as possible. The District will notify radio and television stations of the change in schedule, as well as any evening cancellations.
In the event that it becomes necessary to close the schools because of inclement weather or an emergency situation, a districtwide automated telephone call will be made to all parents and staff. In addition, the following radio and television stations and website will broadcast the closing of our schools.
