ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

The Copiague School District, while recognizing the value of all school activities, firmly believes that success in credit bearing courses and good citizenship are of primary importance.

INSTRUCTIONAL AND BEHAVIORAL STANDARDS

These regulations are for those students who participate in extra-curricular, co-curricular, and athletic activities.  Band and chorus functions are excluded from adhering to these regulations.  Academic and behavioral standards will be the basis for determining a student’s eligibility status.

Procedures:

A. Fall Season Eligibility shall be determined by the final grades received by a student at the end of the previous school year (4th marking period), final average and/or summer school.

B. Winter Season Eligibility shall be determined by the grades received by a student at the end of the 1st and/or 2nd marking periods.

C. Spring Season Eligibility shall be determined by the grades received by a student at the end of the 2nd and/or 3rd marking periods.

Criteria:
A student shall be declared ineligible for the next ten (10) weeks if at the end of a marking period he/she has received two failing grades.  A student declared ineligible has the right of appeal.  All appeals must be in writing and directed to the principal.

A review will be conducted by the building principal or administrative designee after five (5) weeks and if the student is currently passing, restoration to the activity may be granted.

A Principal’s Suspension from school would constitute the suspended student being declared ineligible from any and all activities encompassed by these regulations.  The building principal would determine the length of time of the suspension, ranging from a minimum of (1) day to a maximum of five (5) days.
