Welcome to Mrs. Smith's 7th grade math class!  I am new here at GFMS this year and have spent the last 10 years at Gamewell Middle School.  This is actually my 19th year with Caldwell County Schools.  I have lived in Caldwell County most of my life and currently reside in Lenoir. I look forward to getting to know your child as well as your family this school year.  I believe that the education of a child happens both at school and at home.  Together, I know we can and will have a fabulous school year.  Below you will find information about my math class that will help your child be most successful.

CONTACT INFORMATION FOR MRS. SMITH ~ tismith@caldwellschools.com and my phone number is (828) 572-8810.  You can call or text me anytime!  Another way you can contact me is here at GFMS at (828) 396-2341 and just leave a message.  I will return your call either during my planning time which is from 10:05 am – 11:20 am or after school.  You can also visit my webpage located on the GFMS website.

FOR HOMEWORK AND/OR CLASSROOM ASSIGNMENTS ~ Corrections can be made on all homework and/or classroom assignments at any time during the current 9-week grading period.  Corrections made on homework and classroom assignments will receive back half credit.  Students are allowed to make corrections only once. When making corrections, students MUST complete the corrected work on a separate piece of paper and attach it to the original assignment. Corrections are only made on tests and quizzes in the classroom and not at home unless otherwise directed.   ALL students will only be given one opportunity to make corrections! (Unless other arrangements are agreed to due to an extenuating circumstance or due to modifications).

PROJECTS ~ Your child will be assigned math projects occasionally throughout this 2023-2024 school year.  At the time of being assigned, students will bring home information about the project.  Students will only be given minimal time in class to work on projects.  Most time spent on completing projects will be done at home.  I will try and provide most materials required for projects.  I will send home information in ample time if materials are needed prior to being assigned.  Projects are expected to be relevant to the current 7th grade math curriculum, but also to be fun!  Family members are welcome to participate with the creation of their child’s projects, I actually encourage it!

MISSING/LATE ASSIGNMENT ~ When a student fails to turn in an assignment on time, they will automatically be deducted 10 points unless there are special circumstances concerning the reason for the missing or late assignment.  Students have until the end of the 9-weeks to get all assignments turned in but deductions will occur.  (Note: When a student is absent, they have the same number of days as their absence to get all assignments turned in without penalty.  Example:  If a student is absent 2 days, they have 2 days to turn in all assignments that were assigned on the days of their absence(s).)

    Student Contracts:

Based on last year’s test scores, grades, attendance and behavior, students who were not proficient in 7th grade may be placed on academic/behavioral/attendance contracts this year.  This is a contract between the student, the parents, the teachers and administrators, stating what each of us will do to help your child grow and close the gap.  Students also may be placed on a contract if performance during the year shows a lack of growth.  If your child will be on a contract, we will meet with you to review the contract and discuss options to help your child.  Students placed on contracts may receive interventions during House time.  Students who fail to uphold their academic contracts will be considered for retention.
